XC Planner

Plan the best paragliding cross-country (XC) route from any takeoff in Turkey, using real terrain, the real weather forecast for the day you choose, and the NOTAMs you paste in. XContest scoring with FAI triangle helpers.

  • On-screen info: the boxes at the top of the map always show route length, flight time, arrival, score, wind, cloud base, thermal strength, launch and end times, and the live FAI status. The toolbar at the bottom has Undo, Clear, FAI helper, Thermal map, Export and Panel.
  • FAI helper: when the route has 4 points (takeoff, TP1, TP2, finish) the helper opens: a blue zone for TP1, a red zone for TP2 and a yellow circle for the finish. The FAI triangle is calculated when the points are inside them. Click a white dot on a leg to add a point there.
  • Tailwind stretches a leg, headwind shortens it. Thermal strength, sun-facing slopes and terrain change your speed: rugged terrain is good, flat plains are weak, there are no thermals over the sea.
  • Pick your launch time. Thermals are weak in the morning, strong in the afternoon and die in the evening.
  • Cloud base is your ceiling. You cannot cross terrain higher than the cloud base minus 200 m (red hatched on the map). Airport control zones (about 8 km), NOTAM zones and more than 6 km of sea crossing are not allowed.
  • Thermal hotspots: import your own IGC or GPX flights and their thermals are added to the map and pull the route estimate towards them. Predicted terrain triggers (sun-facing spurs and ridges) are shown as orange T-markers.
  • Map styles and layers: use the Layers button for satellite, topographic, street, light and dark maps, and to switch wind arrows, takeoffs, place names, airspace and hotspots on or off.
  • Export: send your route to XCTrack with a QR code, or download GPX, CUP and KML files. Save routes in this browser and share them with a link.
  • Training levels are 12 real takeoffs with fixed weather and a computed best route to compare against.

XContest scoring:

  • Free flight: 1 km = 1.0 pt
  • Free triangle: 1 km = 1.2 pts
  • FAI triangle (shortest side at least 28%): 1 km = 1.4 pts
  • Closed free triangle (closing distance under 5%): 1 km = 1.4 pts
  • Closed FAI triangle: 1 km = 1.6 pts
  • For a triangle the start-to-finish gap (closing distance) must be under 20% of the triangle perimeter. Triangle distance = perimeter minus closing distance.

Plan an XC day

Choose a takeoff and a date. We use the real forecast for that day and any NOTAMs you paste in to compute the highest-scoring XC route.

Current NOTAMs cannot be fetched automatically: the official sources do not allow browser access. Copy the LTAA (Ankara FIR) NOTAMs from FAA NOTAM Search or the DHMI AIS site and paste them here. The circle, lower and upper limits and times from the Q line are read. Only airspace restrictions (QR, QW) are applied.
